This is not a good time to take a plane.

Anywhere.

(And for any of you who didn't know this about me earlier, I have a genius for stating the obvious).

My Japanese daughter was to take a 3:30 p.m. flight from Narita airport today, and through the miracle of the International Date Line, arrive in Atlanta, Georgia at 3:05 p.m. today. (And there are those who say that time travel doesn't exist. Ha!)

Then she was supposed to gather her bags from customs, re-check them for a domestic flight, go through domestic security and leave Atlanta on an entirely new flight by 5:21. Also - HA!

Except we were both wrong about this, and she only had to gather said bags and have them checked through customs and rechecked in the said-same room and then mosey over to another gate, not having to do the security thing again, and so... she made the flight. I got a call at 4:55 with a very tired, quiet voice saying, "Mom, I made it."

Miracles of modern flight. Even during times of terrorism.

But then... even without TSA or the NSA or NW or AA or UA, there are still screw-ups.

So, despite the small voice over the phone, and despite getting on the plane on time, a good hour later, she and all the other passengers on flight 4366 got off said plane.

And waited.

And waited.

And finally another plane came. A plane without any mechanical or other difficulties that had plagued the first plane. And said passengers of flight 4366 got on this new plane.

And waited.

And waited.

And despite beginning the boarding process at 7:15 p.m., they finally were in the air by 8:24 p.m.

And now Fantasy Boy is burnt out, and my foot has given out, so the welcoming party is down to my DH, who is still in one piece.

And my Japanese daughter has been traveling for 25.5 hours straight and will be traveling for another 1.5 (at least) until she arrives at our door.

If the new ETA is correct.

Doncha just love air travel?

What's Cooking?

Well, another day of... nada. I'm making some applesauce carrot cake tomorrow, though, along with whatever Japanese daughter darn well wants for dinner after her fiasco travel day!
